SOLD OUT

Fiber: Polwarth
Structure: Combed Top
Microns: 22-23mic
Handle: Soft (Next-to-the-Skin)
Staple Length: 80mm
Technique: Kettle-Dyed
Weight: Approx. 4 oz.

Polwarth, developed from breeding a Merino sheep with a Lincoln Sheep, is 3/4 part Merino, 1/4 part Lincoln. The wool is soft and slightly shiny with a good staple length. You will love spinning this breed!

These combed tops were dyed using what I like to refer to as my "Intuitive" dyeing technique, where I let my brain go and dye according to the moment. Colors are many, and all over the place! 🙂 There is no solid color pattern, like in hand-painted tops, so if you want control and long solid colors, this fiber is probably not for you!

However if you are into lots of random colors, (and surprises) you will love this hand dyed top! The best approach is to split the top lengthwise into thin strips before spinning to keep the colors bright and clear. I usually split mine into at least 8 strips, sometimes 16 if I'm spinning a fine yarn like a 2-ply fingering or sport weight. You can also "design" your finished garment this way – the more splits, the shorter stripes. Have fun with it!

About Yarn Hero's Dyed Fibers:

What you see in the photos are what you will receive. All my rovings are in stock and dyed in small batches. I do not do dyed-to-order. If you see a particular braid in the photo you would like, please leave a note in the comments and I will try my best.

-------------------------

All fibers are hand dyed by me in my smoke-free home studio. I do have pets, so please take this into consideration if you are highly allergic.

I only use professional colorfast, washfast acid dyes. However due to the intense colors and high saturation of pigments, there might be a small amount of color bleed in your first wash. Always hand wash and lay out or hang to dry.

I try my best to represent the true color of my fibers, but please be aware that monitors do vary and may show the colors slightly different.
